6 Goal Surge Downs Visiting Fusion

Aubrey Krahn Scores First GoalSometimes all a team needs is a little spark and the confidence grows from there. The Torrent Women have been showing off their talents all season thus far, but have been denied their first three point match. The effort has been there, the talent has been seen, and the ability to finish chances has been witnessed.

On Saturday night at Hart Park Stadium, the Torrent put it all together in a 6-0 showcase victory over Dakota Fusion. The match would turn out to be far more physical than the early portion of the game would have indicated. By the time the final whistle would sound Milwaukee would be able to stand their ground.

The Torrent opened up the match maintaining the majority of possession. The backline of Emma Keckeisen, Kelli Swenson, Bonnie Lacy, and newly signed Katie Koker would not allow Dakota through for any quality chances on goalkeeper Elaina LaMacchia. Their hard work and attack on the ball would lead to the women’s first goal of the match.

Aubrey Krahn would chip one past the Dakota goal keep at the 21 minute mark. The play would be started with Keckeisen winning a 50/50 ball in the midfield. Milwaukee would move the ball around the backline quickly before playing it over the top to Krahn. She would take a touch to control the ball in traffic before striking it over the head of the Dakota keeper.

Robyn’s Nest Of Goals

Robyn ElliottRobyn Elliott would come on to the pitch in the 25 minute and become the spark the Torrent needed. Already up one, Elliott would take charge and make sure the women collected their three points.

In the 27 minute Elliott would score to give the Torrent a two goal lead. Later after goals by Haley Johnson and Leah Celarek, Elliott would put in her second of the match. The ball would be sent in from the left edge of the box to a wide open Elliott who was positioned perfectly between the PK spot and the top of the box. She would play the ball off her right foot and over the keeper for a 5-0 halftime lead.

Elliott wasn’t done for the day however. After colliding with a member of the Fusion in the 58 minute, which left her on the sidelines, Elliott would complete the first hat trick in Torrent Women’s history in the 82 minute. Her goal will close out the scoring on the night.

When asked about the evening, Elliott stated “I’m just so thrilled at how the night went and the support I received from my teammates, my family and the Torrent fans.”

Second Half Physical Play

Torrent GoalAfter a possession filled first half by the Torrent, the second half took on a vastly different feel. Milwaukee dominated the pace and flow for the first 45, but Dakota was not going to go head home without putting up a fight.

Physical play kept the training staff busy as Robyn Elliott, Jen Eberhardy and Annika Martensson would all find themselves on the turf for periods of time in the second 45. Injuries, compounded with Dakota’s ability to knock Milwaukee off the ball with increased consistency led to many more second half chances for the Fusion. But in the end Elaina LaMacchia and Sara Klimisch would combine for the clean sheet.
