MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee Torrent and the Village of Wales are thrilled to announce a partnership that will provide more and better soccer opportunities for children in the Waukesha County community.
Starting this fall, the Torrent will assume management of the Village of Wales Recreational
program, which provides soccer opportunities for boys and girls ages 4-14, and Wales Community Park.
As part of the agreement, the Torrent created a new curriculum for volunteer coaches in Wales and will provide coaching education. In addition to continuing the current recreational offerings, the Torrent expects to offer select teams that would play in the Southeast Classic League (SECL) at some age groups, an option not previously available in the Wales program.
Players in the Wales program also will be eligible to participate in the Torrent’s annual trips to Germany, which combines training at the Bayer Leverkusen facilities with friendly matches or tournament play and sight-seeing.
The Torrent moved their annual summer camp with coaches from German Bundesliga club
Bayer Leverkusen to Wales Community Park — this year’s event is July 17-21 — and the new Torrent Soccer School also will be based there during the summer. The Torrent’s USL Super-Y League competitive teams will continue to hold their practices at the park in the summer, too, as they have for the past two years.
