Torrent take 2 goal lead, Kalamazoo battle back

The Torrent men traveled to Kalamazoo on Sunday and returned with a 2-2 draw. The field was wet and slick after an all-day rain, but the team fought through. With the completion of the match, the Torrent are already a quarter of the way through their 2018 season.

Milwaukee would spend most of the first half in possession. Defensively they controlled the midfield, and denied Kalamazoo very little sustained pressure. The home team had their best chance late in the first half. They were able find some room on the left side of the field for a shot that rang off the post and rolled harmlessly to the far side to be cleared from danger.

Milwaukee Opens Scoring

Isaac Pereyra would get the Torrent on the board first. Andrew Wiedabach would play a ball in to Pereyra who would find the back of the net in the 26 minute. Milwaukee would continue to control the pace of the game throughout the half, closing it out with a one goal lead.

The second half action would start off with a Torrent goal. Mikey Mayberry would net his first goal as a member of the Torrent. His goal would give the road team a 2-0 lead in the 46 minute. Pererya would get credit with the assist.

Kalamazoo would fight back with goals in the 54 and 66 minute. The Torrent began to get a bit spread out through the middle of the field. They got caught in transition which allowed their opponent the chances they needed to tie things up. Milwaukee was able to close things up, and denied Kalamazoo any strong chances down the stretch.

Torrent Display Positive Effort

Despite the 2-2 draw, Coach Davi expressed afterwards, “Today was by far our best game of the season. We played soccer out of the back, created chances, and finished chances.”

Milwaukee played well considering the fourth line up change in four matches. Without the services of Drew Ruggles, Mark Hutchinson, Diego Bobadilla, Michael Da-Silva, and Stuart Grable the Torrent played Sunday with a short bench. Given the effort and results against Kalamazoo, there are still high hopes for this team to get where they feel they are capable of reaching.
